It’s going to be a Merry Christmas for Kelly Clarkson. The newlywed and soon-to-be mother now has plenty to celebrate, but she says she can still recall several holidays when things weren’t always so promising.

“I was single for almost seven years,” Clarkson admits to Parade magazine. “Every Christmas, it was like, ‘Seriously, I’m still pathetically alone? Awesome. I’m still telling people I’m okay with it? I’m not.’”

The 31-year-old says her romantic life prior to meeting new husband Brandon Blackstock was almost nonexistent. “I only had like three boyfriends my whole life before Brandon, and two of them were good, just not a good fit,” she reveals. “I only had one real stinker [who] I wrote [music about] and made a lot of money off of.”

Clarkson, who met Blackstock through her manager, Narvel Blackstock, knew early on he was The One. “He was like, ‘My dad’s gonna kill me if this doesn’t go well,’” she recalls. “I said, ‘So? We’re both adults. And it’s gonna go awesome!’ In my head, I was like, ‘I’m already married to you!’”

The former ‘American Idol’ champ is doing her part to get her fans in the holiday spirit. She released her Christmas album, ‘Wrapped in Red,’ last month, and will star in her own TV special, ‘Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Tale,’ which will air on Dec. 11 at 10PM ET on NBC.
