Keith Urban Gives an Update on His Progress on New Album
Keith Urban has already revealed that he is working on a new record, the followup to his 2013 No. 1 album Fuse. But while his fans might be eager to hear new tunes, Urban says that they will have to be patient just a little bit longer.
"It's a long way from done," Urban reveals to Taste of Country, calling it "a work-in-progress."
While the 47-year-old pushed boundaries with Fuse, he says that his new set of songs will reflect where he is in his own life.
"I just think of it in terms of authenticity, just capturing where I'm at," he explains. "That's all my records have ever been about, just capturing where I am."
Urban used nine producers, plus himself, on Fuse, including rap producers Mike Elizondo and Benny Blanco. Although the influences might have seemed a bit of a stretch for country music, Urban simply wanted to be inspired by thinking outside the box, which he hopes to repeat with his new record.
"I'm always looking for new people to create with," Urban says. "I did with with Fuse, and I'm doing it also with this record as well."
Nile Rodgers, a producer and member of disco hitmakers Chic, recently collaborated with Urban, though it's unclear if the results are for Urban's new album, a project by Rodgers or something else entirely.
Urban also admits that he isn't sure how the final product will turn out, which is just the way he likes it.
“I sort of like the unknowingness of it,” the Aussie says. “I get in the studio and don’t know what we’re gonna do, and that can be enlightening and sort of revelatory, or it can be incredibly frustrating.”
