Kathy Mattea has used her award-winning voice for more than churning out memorable country hits. The 54-year-old has spoken out on a variety of issues close to her heart, including Appalachian mining practices and AIDS awareness, and now she is adding taking care of the elderly to her causes.

The 'Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses' singer will host Nashville Public Television's new show, 'NPT Reports: Aging Matters,' a series that will address issues that affect the elderly, including health care, financial issues and Alzheimer's disease.

"I have had firsthand experience with loving someone while they walk through the stages of Alzheimer's,” Mattea explains (quote via Country Weekly). “I'm honored to be part of NPT's thoughtful and timely coverage of this and other issues surrounding our aging population."

'Aging Matters' will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 12 with an episode that focuses on end-of-life care. Keep track of the show's upcoming air dates here.
