Jo Dee Messina can now add "author" to her list of credits. The singer co-wrote a new Chicken Soup for the Soul book, Thanks to My Mom, with the series' publisher and editor-in-chief, Amy Newmark.

Messina wrote the introduction and first chapter and, together with Newmark, selected 100 stories from people all over the country, who honored their mothers through the memories they shared.

“This book is a gigantic Thank You to my mom and yours," Messina says, "with stories that will make them smile, laugh out loud and even tear up a few times."

For the Massachusetts native, authoring a book wasn't a far stretch from her regular job as an artist.

"I’m just a writer in general," Messina shares on MariaShriver.com. "I blog, and I write songs. When I was approached by Chicken Soup to do this book, I was thrilled because I love writing and because it also has to do with moms. My mother and I were very, very close when I was young."

The married mother of two knows firsthand how difficult parenting is, which is why she started a blog, FumblingMom.com.

“Parents don’t have all the answers," Messina tells The Boot. "We’re all trying to figure it out along the way. Being a celebrity doesn’t make it any easier. I have the same questions, frustrations and triumphs (potty training) as any other parent out there. This blog is to share my journey and maybe give you a chance to laugh at the whirlwind life of parenthood, relationships and every other thing life may throw my way."

Messina released her latest album, Me, last year. The album is available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Thanks to My Mom is available for purchase on the publisher's website.
