Jewel is an artist who knows a little something about facing challenging economic times. As a struggling young musician, she spent many nights sleeping in her van and dreaming of her big break. Now she's taking part in a unique initiative designed to encourage Americans to hold on to their dreams, especially during the difficult times.

The Sleep Better. Dream Bigger project is an online resource for health information and sleep advice. Through education initiatives, media appearances, blogging, and other special events and programs, the project is designed to raise awareness about the importance of a good night's sleep.

The project is also taking over the town Jewel calls home. From July 15 to August 15, the citizens of Stephenville, Texas will be share their dreams with the rest of the country and learn strategies to make those dreams a reality. A special Stephenville Dreams blog has been set up to document the town's experiences throughout the summer. Located 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Stephenville is the home of Jewel and her husband, Ty Murray.

"I know that times are tough, and it's easy to lose sight of your dreams" says Jewel. "I hope that through this project, I will be able to encourage people to keep reaching for their dreams."

In May, Jewel released, 'Lullaby,' a collection of songs which she says helped her with her own sleep during the early years of her career.
