Right after winning Best American Roots Song at the 2016 Grammy Awards, Jason Isbell took home the trophy for Best Americana Album, for the LP Something More Than Free.

A visibly surprised Isbell returned to the stage and said, "Well, thanks again!" and proceeded to again praise his wife, Amanda Shires, along with his band, the 400 Unit, and his producer, Dave Cobb.

"This album, it came about as a result of a lot of hard work from a lot of good people," he said. "My life turned around a few years ago, so I started working harder and documenting the changes."

Indeed, Isbell expressed gratitude to "all the people who helped me get sober and taught me how to work again," adding, "I'm just happy to be able to work now and have a family."

Other Best Americana Album nominees included Brandi Carlile's The Firewatcher’s Daughter, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell's The Traveling Kind, the Mavericks' Mono and the Punch Brothers' The Phosphorescent Blues.
