"You Make It Easy," the first single from Jason Aldean's Rearview Town album, wasn't initially written with the country star in mind; in fact, some of its writers are recording artists themselves, and could have released the song on their own records.

The track was written by Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley of the hit country duo Florida Georgia Line, along with country singer Morgan Wallen and songwriter Jordan Schmidt. Nevertheless, "You Make It Easy" made its way to Aldean's doorstep. Below, the country star explains how he came to record the song, and what made it so special to him the first time he heard it.

Tyler [Hubbard] and Brian Kelley from Florida Georgia Line, those guys have written songs for me in the past: They wrote "Lights Come On," and "Burnin' It Down" and "Black Tears." They write songs all the time, and when we go in to start recording an album, Tyler will sometimes pitch me some songs that they've written that he feels might work for whatever it is I'm doing.

So he came over to my house one day, and we were riding around in my truck listening to songs, and he was like, "We just wrote this on Friday! Check it out." I heard a verse and half of the chorus of this thing, and then I just stopped the music and said, "Are y'all cutting this song?" He was like, "I don't know. We just wrote it, and we're not going into the studio for another few months."

I told him, "I want it." And he asked me when I was going in, and I said I was going in to the studio in two weeks. So he said, "Well, you're going in before us, so if you want it, take it."

Obviously, it wasn't written about my wife, but that's who it reminded me of, which is one of the reasons I wanted to record it.

The guys from Florida Georgia Line wrote that with Morgan Wallen, so you've got two acts who could have recorded it, but, somehow, they both gave it up. It could have been a hit for either one of those guys, but, somehow, I ended up with it, which I appreciate very much.
