James Wesley put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the video for his current single, 'Didn't I.' The Kansas native sat down with The Boot to give us a sneak preview. (Watch footage from the video shoot below.)

"The song itself is about how we've all been in relationships before where we feel like we've given more than the other side," James explains. "As we start the video, we're at this house, and there's a couple sitting on the fence. Then we flash back to when we, the couple, bought this house. It shows us throughout the video having our struggles as we go through out this scenario. I'm trying to block her out of my mind, but she's standing at the window watching me work out in the rain. I'm just trying to put her off to the back side, and I'm working on my honey-do list and she's trying to get my attention at the door and I'm still doing my thing. At the end of the video ... I can't tell you what happens. [laughs]"

The singer-songwriter really got into character for his new role. "I got to act a little bit in the the first video [for 'Real], but this one was more of my big acting debut," he admits. "I ended up being pretty good. [laughs] I mean, I did OK, as I talk about myself."

Basically, there could be an Oscar in his future. "That's what I was trying to say in a roundabout way," he jokes.

The father of two didn't have to go far from Nashville to film the clip either. "We shot the video in Columbia, Tenn., out in the country," he continues. "It was in an old colonial home out there, dated back to the mid- to late-1800s. It was a beautiful place. We had the volunteer firefighters come out and bring their fire truck. I had 500 gallons of water doused on me. It was hot, so it felt really good!"

While a music video can take on a life of its own, it all starts with a song. "I love finding and writing those songs that are different from anything that's out there," James explains. "It's a breath of fresh air. We had a pitch meeting and we're listening to all these songs and I heard that song. Then we were getting ready to leave and I told one of my co-producers, 'Man, there's something about that song.' So we got it. When we do this song live, it's like the crowd pulsates."

You'll have the opportunity to see that for yourself if you catch James on Taylor Swift's Speak Now World Tour. His first date is June 25 in Foxboro, Mass. Get a complete list of tour dates here.
