Jake Owen Apologizes for Tweets About Police

Jake Owen is continuing to express remorse over this past weekend's run-in with police in his hometown of Vero Beach, Fla. After being handcuffed outside of a Steak 'n Shake restaurant on Saturday night (May 5), the "Alone With You" singer posted a series of tweets criticizing the police department, saying, "You give a guy a gun and a badge and he thinks he's John Wayne."

Jake has since removed those comments, and instead expressed regrets for not only his behavior, but his accusatory statements. "I want to publicly apologize again for bringing to light a situation that I overreacted to," Jake tweeted Sunday morning. "I embarrassed myself and my family and most importantly the great people of my hometown. The sheriffs were doing their jobs and I made an immature decision to announce it to the world. This is me talking. Not some puppet that is reciting what he 'should' say. I take full responsibility. Again, what's done is done, but I am truly sorry."

By Monday morning, however, the entire incident had been eclipsed by the fact that Jake was a newly-married man! (Read all about his beachside wedding here.) The singer has not been charged with any crime, which is a good thing since between wedded bliss and touring, the upcoming months won't really allow much time for a court date.
