Jake Owen Married: Singer Weds Model Lacey Buchanan in Beachside Ceremony

Brian Pepper

Jake Owen is a married man! Just one month after popping the question on stage during a concert, the country star tied the knot with Lacey Buchanan in a barefoot (but no blue jeans) ceremony.

“A best friend for life. I now have a wifey,” Jake tweeted Monday morning. “My face hurts from smiling. What a wonderful way to start the rest of my life.”

The “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” singer and his model wife said “I do” at a sunrise ceremony today (May 7) on the beach in Jake’s hometown of Vero Beach, Fla. They were surrounded by a small group of family members, with Lacey’s sister serving as her maid of honor and Jake’s twin brother as the best man. According to People magazine, the bride wore an Amsale gown, while the groom sported a white linen shirt and drawstring pants.

“That was my idea, because it’s symbolic of the dawn of a new day and starting our new life together,” Jake told People.

Jake and Lacey met when the brunette beauty starred in her future husband’s “8 Second Ride” video. The two started dating after he cast her again in his “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” video. But there’s another song that perhaps holds the most meaning for the couple: “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You,” as it was during his performance of that song that Jake called Lacey up on stage at his alma mater, Vero Beach High School, to ask for her hand in marriage. He told the audience he’d always wanted to get engaged in front of friends and family, and it just felt right.

The proposal was indeed spontaneous — the country star didn’t even have a ring. It was later, back home in Nashville, that Jake asked Lacey once again to marry him, getting down on one knee and presenting her with a 2.5 carat ring he’d designed himself.

“I’m looking forward to being a husband, someone his wife relies and leans on,” says Jake.

“He gives me so much love, that it’s the best place of my life, and having the commitment of marriage means everything,” adds Lacey.

Unfortunately, the pre-wedding festivities got a little out of hand, as Jake got in trouble with the law just two days before the nuptials. It’s unclear what exactly he did wrong, but it was likely alcohol-related, as posts on his Twitter page Saturday indicated he was having “too good of a time” on Cinco de Mayo.

“I just got arrested in my hometown,” he tweeted, including a photo of himself with his hands cuffed behind his back. (The post has since been removed, along with another post mocking the officers at the scene.) The singer later apologized to his friends, family and the Vero Beach Sheriff’s Department, claiming full responsibility for his actions and expressing regret for embarrassing his friends and family. It turns out Jake was not officially arrested — just handcuffed and detained. He has not been charged with any crime.
