Jake London is preparing to release his debut album, and he's letting readers of The Boot hear one of the tracks early.

'Somewhere Down the Road' is the lead track from London's 'Runaway Heart' album, which showcases 10 tracks of complex, nuanced songwriting.

London's journey to a musical career has been an unusual one. His first exposure to music came in the form of a beaten up old Fender acoustic a friend gave him as he set out from his hometown of Portland, Ore. for Los Angeles -- a trip that would prove one-way.

But once in Los Angeles, London received the devastating news that his 30-year-old brother had passed away after a massive heart attack. The guitar, and music, became a lifeline for London, who poured himself into the competitive LA music scene, getting a first-hand musical education with every gig.

The result is 'Runaway Heart,' which showcases a diverse palette of influences including Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams, all in the setting of London's own style of modern folk and country.

He signed with Nashville-based Lamon Records in February of 2014. The indie label has a big reach, with distribution through Sony Music. 'Somewhere Down the Road' is set for release on Tuesday (April 1). 'Runaway Heart' will follow on April 29.
