Some of country music’s big female names — and a few of the genre’s men — used social media to recognize International Women’s Day on Wednesday (March 8). Little Big Town, Dustin Lynch and the Dixie Chicks are among the artists who honored the holiday through tweets and Instagram posts.

“I love seeing strong-willed women inspire little girls,” reads the quote, said by Dixie Chicks member Emily Strayer, in the country trio’s Instagram post. LBT, meanwhile, shared a photo of the quartet’s two female members, Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, onstage at the Ryman Auditorium, simply captioned with a heart emoji and the hashtag #InternationalWomensDay.

Also celebrating International Women’s Day on Instagram was Sheryl Crow, who shared a sweet photo of herself as a baby, with her mother; the singer-songwriter notes that she celebrates the day in her mother’s honor, adding that she “is a strong and noble woman, and she is a great example to me in raising my boys.”

Although she didn’t post a photo, Jennifer Nettles, too, offered some thoughts on International Women’s Day in a tweet: “Let us never fear our own voices. Let us always make known our value.”

But country’s ladies weren’t the only ones to recognize International Women’s Day: Lynch, for example, Instagrammed a photo of himself and his mother on the red carpet at the CMA Awards; “thanks for making me who I am,” he captioned it.

Wishing a happy international women's day to this special lady right here. Love you mom! Thanks for making me who I am

Celebrated annually on March 8, International Women’s Day “is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity,” the holiday’s official website explains. International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the early 1900s.
