This dude is killing it!!

Hunter Hayes surprised a local artist and gave an impromptu performance during his recent visit to Washington, D.C.

Hayes was eating at a Union Market restaurant on July 4 while a local artist named Sheen Righter was performing. When Righter launched into Hayes' 2012 multi-platinum hit "Wanted," Hayes stood up to record some of the performance -- and Righter invited Hayes to join him to finish the song.

"What a day," Righter posted on Facebook that evening, along with video of the two performing together. Apparently, Hayes was impressed as well: He posted "This guy is killing it!" on his own Facebook page when he shared the video.

Hayes was in D.C. to perform for the A Capitol Fourth Fourth of July celebration in the nation's capitol; Meghan Linsey and Alabama were also part of the event. He then returned to his role as the opening act on Lady Antebellum's Wheels Up 2015 Tour. Whether Hayes is performing for a sold-out arena or for local restaurant patrons, the 23-year-old says that he's happy to be able to share his talents with an audience.

"I realize how lucky I am to get to sing something that I know about, that I’ve written about because either I lived it or somebody I know lived it, or in some way I’m close to this story and it means something to me," Hayes says. "When you’re singing with everybody in the audience, you’re together. You’ve lived this moment, and you’ve had this experience … the good, bad, kind of mediocre moments in life, sunshine, rain, everything."

Hayes is currently climbing up the charts with his latest single, "21." Download the song on iTunes.
