Actress Hayley Orrantia is best known as Erica Goldberg on the hit ABC comedy The Goldbergs, but that might soon change. The 21-year-old is working hard on her music career, which she says leans toward country.

Orrantia grew up listening to everything from country music to pop and R&B, but during her stint on The X-Factor in 2011, she was placed in a country-pop girl group, Lakoda Rayne.

"That’s when I kind of came to, ‘Okay, I really enjoy listening to country music,'" Orrantia recalls to The Boot.

Orrantia has already released three songs: “Love Sick," “Until Then" and a Spanish version of "Until Then," "Hasta Verte." The songs have a country tinge to them, although Orrantia admits that wasn't her original intent.

"I never thought that country would have been my thing," the singer-songwriter acknowledges. "I even started songwriting and realized that all of the songs I was writing were coming out very country sounding, and so I couldn’t fight it."

Like a true country songwriter, Orrantia draws on real-life experiences.

""Lovesick" was inspired by a situation with a boy, of course," she explains. "And I make sure that every song that I write is very genuine and each line [is] very specific to the real situation, because that’s what resonates with the audiences better.

""Until Then" has a bit more of a sad story behind it," Orrantia continues. "My friend Elsa passed away from cancer last year, and I was inspired to write this song for her, in visiting her."

With actresses such as Jana Kramer and Lucy Hale having already transitioned from TV to country music, Orrantia says that she looks to them for inspiration.

"I’m dying to meet them and kind of ask them, 'How did you do it? Is it a difficult process?' And kind of get their take on it," she says. "I know it’s a hard thing to transition from acting into music. You’re not necessarily taken as seriously."

Orrantia is currently working on a five-song EP while still honing her skills as an actress.

"I just kind of transitioned into country music," she maintains. "It’s been nice, and hopefully I can get more music out there soon."

“Love Sick,” “Until Then” and “Hasta Verte” are available for download on iTunesThe Goldbergs airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 8:30PM ET.
