Brett Wiscons and his special guest Bari Leigh perform John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery" for the final Guest Room Sessions installment of 2016. Readers can press play above to watch.

For this rendition of "Angel From Montgomery," Wiscons stopped in Music City for a show at the Basement and nabbed his friend, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Leigh, to sing with him. The result is a gritty, one-of-a-kind duet on a Prine classic.

"I am a big John Prine fan, and ["Angel From Montgomery" is] my favorite song of his," Wiscons tells The Boot. "The story it tells speaks for itself. To me, those are the best types of songs. As an Americana artist myself, I strive to write storytelling-based songs."

This Guest Room Sessions video came together quickly, and it captures the ambiance of the Basement, a low-key bar and performance venue: A door slams open and shut as people pass by, and the dimly lit clip relies on Wiscons and Leigh's vocals, not production value, to carry it.

"We rehearsed for five minutes, and on our second take, we nailed it," Wiscons recalls, adding, "Pay no mind to 'Jigsaw' hanging out in the background. It was Halloween Eve, after all."

Wiscons' newest record, The Heineken Sessions (Deluxe), is available on Amazon, iTunes and other digital retailers; it was produced by Grammy winner Mark Bryan (Hootie & the Blowfish). The singer has several shows booked through the end of 2016, and his tour schedule for 2017 is already filling up into summer. Visit Wiscons' official website for upcoming show dates.
