George Strait is the undisputed King of Country, having topped the charts more than any other artist in history. And the Academy of Country Music didn't crown him Artist of the Decade this past year for no good reason. Even after being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame three years ago, the titanic Texan is still notching chart-toppers -- most recently, 'Living for the Night,' co-written with son Bubba and veteran tunesmith Dean Dillon.

So how has this legendary singing cowboy been able to stay tall and strong in the saddle of success for nearly 30 years?

"If I knew the answer to that, I could have a whole new career selling it," he tells Cowboys & Indians magazine. "I've just tried to do what I do the best I can do it -- from picking songs to making records to playing shows."

And clearly, his knack for picking the best songs to record has been one of the most important keys to his continued success. George's latest album, 'Twang' earned gold-record status barely a month after its release. Year after year, the superstar himself is more surprised than anyone with what each album continues to bring him. Perhaps that why he's not really thinking too far ahead.

.

"It's a little too late to be talking about long-term goals for me," says George. "Every year I get to do it now is another year I didn't think I would have."

George's current single is the title track of his latest album, 'Twang.'
