Gene Watson, Trace Adkins Have Pulse on Country Music

Trace Adkins and Gene Watson are two men who continue to carry the torch for country music. Who better, then, to sing a song titled 'We've Got A Pulse,' with lyrics confirming that country music is indeed alive and well? "Just as long as I'm alive, there will be songs about grievin' and cheatin' and drinkin' and lovin' a good woman right."

"This song is an answer to the huge hit 'Murder on Music Row'," Gene explains to The Boot. "It was written by Jerry Salley and Billy Yates, and in one word I'd say the song is 'defiance.' There's not a better song out there that states how I feel about country music."

Trace and Gene have been friends for some time, and Gene says it was only natural that he call on his Louisiana buddy for a collaboration. "The song is even more special because Trace recorded with me," he says. "I've been a longtime admirer of him, both as a person and a vocalist, and it is a huge honor that he recorded the duet with me."

The song is on Gene's upcoming album, 'A Taste of the Truth,' which will be out August 25 on Shanachie Records. "This is a unique album for me because we stepped out a bit to include some more modern instrumentation but still keeping my style," Gene says. "We've got plenty of fiddle and steel but some beautiful orchestration on one song and some contemporary songs by today's hottest writers."

Gene tells The Boot that his fans may not be able to hear his music on mainstream radio, but when they come to one of his shows, they'll hear real country music, like his hits 'Farewell Party' and 'Love in the Hot Afternoon.'

"I hope the fans will enjoy this record and appreciate that as long as the they are still coming to the shows, there will be singers and musicians like me keeping country music alive and well," Gene assures, adding, "Fans may not be able to hear real country music on mainstream radio, but country music is alive and kicking around the world."
