Betsy Smittle, a musician and the half-sister of country superstar Garth Brooks, has passed away.

Tulsa’s News 9 reports that Smittle died on Saturday (Nov. 2). She was 60 years old.

Smittle was a bass player who toured with Brooks in his band for several years. In addition to her stint with her famous brother, she also released a solo album titled ‘Rough Around the Edges.’ She sang backing vocals for fellow Oklahoma artist Gus Hardin on her ‘I’m Dancing As Fast As I Can’ album and was a member of her band as well.

She was also a gay rights activist who performed in gay pride events around her home state of Oklahoma, according to News 9.

No cause of death has been released. According to Ninde Funeral Home, funeral arrangements are pending.

The Boot extends our condolences to Smittle’s fans, friends and family.
