Garth Brooks Plans First-Ever Ryman Show to Celebrate SiriusXM Channel’s Launch

Garth Brooks has performed concerts in plenty of different venues and cities since getting his start in the late 1980s, but there's one historic spot he has yet to check off his list: Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. That, however, will change come September.

On Sept. 8, Brooks will play a special show at the Ryman to celebrate the launch of his new SiriusXM satellite radio channel. The concert, which will be Brooks' first full show at the historic venue, will be invitation only, for SiriusXM listeners, and will be broadcast on the country superstar's brand-new channel, which debuts that day.

“Just the thought of playing the Ryman is crazy," Brooks says in a press release. "The fact that SiriusXM is going to capture the evening makes it even a bigger event for me."

SiriusXM subscribers can win tickets through call-in opportunities that begin Wednesday (July 27) and by entering online beginning Thursday (July 28). Subscribers must have had a SiriusXM subscription since July 11 or before to enter.

"As Garth is showing on his current tour, he holds nothing back," adds SiriusXM's President and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein, "and for him to play the Mother Church of Country Music will be a treasured moment for his many fans."

The Garth Channel -- which will be channel 55 on SiriusXM radio -- will feature a playlist of music from Brooks and the artists who influenced him, as well as Brooks-hosted shows and behind-the-scenes commentary, after its launch on Sept. 8. Filling up the station’s content will be live concert recordings, other rarities and shows hosted by the singer’s friends and fans, including wife Trisha Yearwood.

"It’s rare to be handed an opportunity that can grow as big as you can dream. That is exactly what SiriusXM has just done," Brooks says of his new station. "I speak for myself and the entire team when I say we are very grateful for this opportunity and very excited about its potential.”

Willie Nelson and Kenny Chesney already have their own SiriusXM channels: Nelson has Willie’s Roadhouse, a station of classic country from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, while Chesney has No Shoes Radio, which moved to SiriusXM in April.

Brooks’ most recent studio album is 2014’s Man Against Machine. He is currently out on the road with Yearwood, on his World Tour.
