Congratulations are in order for Garth Brooks and his family. The country music superstar became a first-time grandfather earlier this week, when his middle daughter, August Anna Brooks, gave birth to a baby girl.

According to Taste of Country, Facebook photos show that the 19-year-old had her daughter, Karalynn, on Tuesday (July 23). Her Facebook profile says she has been with the child's father, Chance Michael Russell, since October of 2011. Russell is also a resident of Owasso, Okla., where the two attended high school together.

August graduated in 2012, after which she worked at a law firm and started classes at the University of Oklahoma.

Garth Brooks retired from active touring and recording at the height of his career in 2000, citing conflicts between his career and the need to spend more time with his daughters. Despite a few sporadic appearances and single releases since, he has firmly maintained that he will not return to a full-time music career until his youngest daughter, Allie, graduates from high school in 2014. The entertainer has hinted at the possibility of a full-blown tour after that.

“Our family would first like to thank everyone for their warm wishes and sweet celebration of Baby K’s arrival," Brooks says in a statement to Tulsa World Friday (July 26). "Our children’s lives have always been extremely private and they have been endlessly encouraged to be their own people."

He adds, “We have always wanted them to be individuals and NOT be known as ‘someone’s daughters.' I have been amazed and grateful how the press has always respected this. I now ask that respect to please continue as this young family begins the greatest days of their lives.”
