Charlie Daniels hosted his annual Christmas 4 Kids concert last week, to raise money for children in need in middle Tennessee to celebrate the holiday season.

Justin Moore, Rodney Atkins, Sawyer Brown and Phil Vassar joined Daniels for the show, held at the Ryman Auditorium. But perhaps the highlight of the night was a video announcement by Garth Brooks, who used the occasion to honor his longtime bus driver, Jim Payne, who passed away earlier this year.

“For me, especially, Christmas 4 Kids is always about Jim Payne. Jim and Carla are just so sweet people that believe in this effort so so much, so tonight we would like to announce that we are starting the Jim and Carla Payne Foundation for Christmas 4 Kids,” Brooks said. “We are going to make sure these kids have a Christmas long after, well unfortunately Jim, we are going make sure that this thing lives forever. It’s gonna live past me and it’s gonna live past all of you. We are going to make sure of it. Christmas 4 Kids can’t thank you guys enough. Thanks for what you are doing for the kids because the true meaning of Christmas is making sure every kid has enough.”

Brooks, who provides a meal for the children on their upcoming shopping day, honored Daniels for his ongoing efforts. “Big hats off and a big thanks to Charlie Daniels, I love you pal," he adds. "Can’t thank you enough for doing this for the kids."

This year's shopping day will occur on Dec. 17. More than 400 children, from 29 area schools, will receive a chauffeured trip to Walmart on a singer's luxury tour bus, dinner, a party hosted by Santa and Mrs. Claus, $150 to spend, and a brand-new winter coat.
