A common theme in country music this past year has been "let the girls play," and thanks to the #SaladGate controversy, one thing has become clear: Country music fans want to hear the genre's female artists. These five country ladies nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2015 CMA Awards are just a few of the genre's beloved voices.

Miranda Lambert has dominated the Female Vocalist of the Year category since 2010 and holds the record for the longest winning streak in the category. She's also nominated for Music Video and Musical Event of the Year, as well as Entertainer of the Year, at this year's awards show, but will she hang on to her Female Vocalist title for yet another year?

Kacey Musgraves has proved through time (and numerous awards show wins) that she's a rock-solid singer and songwriter, and her uniqueness has caught the eyes -- and ears -- of many fans. She won Song of the Year at last year's CMAs and could very well add another trophy to her collection this time around.

Carrie Underwood has claimed the Female Vocalist of the Year award three times, with her most recent win coming in 2008. She's up for this award as well as Music Video of the Year during this year's ceremony -- in addition to being a co-host of the event -- and the American Idol winner is always a strong contender.

Lee Ann Womack's album The Way I'm Livin' was warmly received, garnering two Grammy nods and two Americana Music Awards nominations. She's been touring in support of her new record, and this is her sixth time being nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year; she won the category in 2001.

Kelsea Ballerini is the only newcomer nominated in this category, and though she's a fresh face in country, her music has spoken volumes -- and points to huge promise from the singer. Her single "Love Me Like You Mean It" made Ballerini the first solo female country artist to have her debut single hit No. 1 since Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel" in 2006. She's only 22, but Ballerini is poised for another great year.
