Elvis Presley’s First Recording Fetches $300,000 at Auction
Talk about a birthday gift. Elvis Presley's first recording was auctioned off at Graceland on Jan. 8, what would have been his 80th birthday, fetching an astonishing $300,000.
Bidding began at $50,000. An undisclosed buyer purchased the record.
The acetate disc, which is believed to be the only copy in existence, has ‘My Happiness’ on one side and ‘That’s Where Your Heartache Begins’ on the other side. Presley recorded the songs when he was just 18 years old, paying $4 for the session.
Other items for sale at the auction included an autographed copy of 'That’s All Right,' a custom watch featuring a Star of David design, Presley's first driver’s license and the jacket he wore in the 'Viva Las Vegas' film.
To celebrate the occasion, Presley's family, including his former wife Priscilla, daughter Lisa Marie and grandchildren, celebrated with an eight-layer cake at Graceland.
