One Suspect Arrested for Making Threats Before the Band Perry Concert
Thirty-five-year-old Dzmitry N. Papou of Selbyville, Del., turned himself in on Monday night (July 4), according to the Delaware News Journal. He has been charged with felony terroristic threatening and was released on $20,000 unsecured bail; Papou has also been issued a no-contact order with the Americana Bayside Welcome Center, where the threats were made.
The News Journal reports that police have identified the second suspect but have not yet arrested him.
The Band Perry‘s show scheduled for Sunday evening (July 3) at the Freeman Stage at Bayside in Selbyville was postponed due to security concerns after Papou and the other suspect "made alarming statements to an employee at the Welcome Center in the Bayside community in regards to the performance of the Band Perry.” Venue and artist management, as well as local and state authorities, decided to postpone the show shortly before the opening act was set to take the stage "for the safety of all.”
TBP will now perform in Selbyville on Aug. 17. Refunds will be available for ticketholders who are unable to make the rescheduled date; ticketholders will receive an email on Tuesday (July 5) with more information. Organizers say that, so far, fan response to the postponement has been positive.
"I think the patrons that were planning on attending, and any patron of the Freeman Stage, was happy to hear that safety was our number one concern," says Alyson Cunningham, a spokeswoman for the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, which runs events at the Freeman Stage.
The Band Perry recently signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and UMG Nashville, following their split from Big Machine. They’ve been revealing some new music at their recent shows, and the band will soon head Rio de Janiero, Brazil, as their single “Live Forever” was selected as Team USA’s official song for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Their next scheduled concert is on Tuesday night in Lewiston, N.Y.
