Dolly Parton Was Just a Kid When She First Heard Herself on the Radio
Dolly Parton's first chart single, "Dumb Blonde," bowed in 1967, but it was a full decade earlier that a youngster from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee cut her first record. So, where was the future global superstar the first time she heard that song coming through the airwaves? Parton recalls the moment to The Boot.
The first time I heard one of my records on the radio, I was 10 years old. I cut a little song called "Puppy Love."
I was sitting up on a counter. They played my record, and I almost killed myself. [Laughs] I jumped off of the counter and slid on some water on the floor. I was running around trying to turn the radio up.
That was the first time I heard one of my records, so that left a bigger impression on me ... because music is a big part of my family.
