Dierks Bentley, Ellen DeGeneres Surprise Military Family
Dierks Bentley is having quite a week — and he’s made it a week to remember for a family in need. In addition to scoring a No. 1 debut on the country chart with his album, ‘Home,’ the superstar visited the ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show‘ on Wednesday (Feb. 15), and surprised a military family facing financial hardship with a check for $50,000. Sgt. Chad Sparks was actively serving when he lost a finger on duty and was forced to return home to care for his injury. He and his wife have been trying to make ends meet by selling their furniture, appliances and other personal items on Craigslist to help support their one-year-old daughter as Sgt. Sparks faces redeployment to Afghanistan.
The hopeful nature of the singer’s current ACM-nominated single, ‘Home,’ encouraged Dierks to join forces last fall with Believe in Heroes, a Wounded Warrior Project initiative, in an effort to support and honor wounded veterans who have sacrificed for our country.
“The song was really written in the spirit of hopefully bringing people together who are going through really hard times right now,” Dierks tells The Boot of ‘Home.’ “To think about what we’ve accomplished in the past and what we can do together in the future. The song is universal.”
Dierks also made quite an impression on GQ this week. The men’s fashion magazine placed him among the Best-Dressed Men at the Grammys. His black crewneck and slacks, with a beaten-up leather jacket, put him in the same company as Bruno Mars, Mumford & Sons and LL Cool J.
Dierks is making sure his Cold Cans and Country tour stays plenty cold the next few days. He’s in Vancouver, British Columbia, tonight and continues his Canadian trek through March 2. Keep track of his tour schedule here.
