David Nail's latest album, 'I'm a Fire,' is still a few days away from its March 4 release date, but the title seems to be indicative of Nail's red-hot career.

The Missouri native celebrated the record's debut single, 'Whatever She's Got,' soaring to the top of the charts at an industry party earlier this week.

“It was unlike anything I had ever recorded before,” Nail says of the tune, written by Jon Nite and Jimmy Robbins (quote via Nashville's Tennessean). “When you hear something like that, it took a couple of days — despite knowing it was a special song … and a game changer — you’re still like, ‘Can I pull this off?'"

Nail says once he realized he wanted the song for 'I'm a Fire,' the tune dictated the direction for the entire project.

"Once I got some confidence in that it was the theme I wanted to be … we were like, ‘Holy crap, this is it,'" he recalls. "This is the song we can build everything around.’ Once we found that, it was a matter a piecing together the other parts of the puzzle.”

The 34-year-old received even more good news the day of the celebration. Mike Dungan, the chairman and CEO of Nail's label, Universal Music Nashville, surprised him with a plaque acknowledging the tune's platinum status, signifying sales in excess of one million units.

“It’s surreal,” Nail says of the career achievement. “There’s been so many moments in my life and career when I was so far away from a day like this happening that it makes this day seem very … humbling.”

Still, the singer doesn't take all the credit for the tune's success. “I didn’t do anything but sing it,” he maintains (quote via Music Row). “Since Mike came over to the label, I’ve felt like a new artist. I’m so thankful to be doing this.”

'Whatever She's Got' is Nail's second No. 1 single. He previously landed in the top spot on the charts with his 2011 single, 'Let It Rain,' from 'The Sound of a Million Dreams.'

Nail will spend much of the next few months touring in support of the album, headlining his own tour as well as serving as the opening act on select dates of Lady Antebellum's Take Me Downtown Tour. See a list of his upcoming shows here, and pre-order 'I'm a Fire' here.
