David Nail's debut album, 'I'm About to Come Alive,' landed in the Top 20 last year, and churned out three singles, including the Top 10 hit, 'Red Light.' Now, the Missouri native is working on his sophomore album, which he says is both exhilarating and intimidating.

"I've always heard the term you have your entire life to write your first album," David tells The Boot. "I've learned really quickly that that's true. So now I'm writing with kind of a timeline ... you have to be done at a certain point. My first record was fairly dark. A few of the years before I made them was a fairly dark point in my life and now I'm happily married, and I don't have a whole lot of angry things to talk about. We'll see. I've never really written a happy song, so I'm struggling."

The singer, who considered becoming a professional baseball player before committing to music full-time, says he never considered a genre other than country. "I grew up listening to a lot of different kinds of music," he explains. "But just like a lot of people in the 1990s, when country got it's big boom, I got sucked in pretty hardcore. Unlike a lot of people, I was never content with maybe what was current. Then I began to start researching back to the '80s, '70s, '60s -- and it was then and there that I found a guy named Glen Campbell. I realized that's who I want to be. I want to sound like Glen Campbell. He just sounds like a really cool guy. And I haven't lived near as hard and cool a life as Glen, but I've learned that there has already been one Glen Campbell. I'll settle for just singing like him, or trying to sing like him."

David may not be able to mimic his favorite singer, but he certainly shares some of the same career aspirations. "I'm more or less just trying to join the fray of good music," he says. "People ask me all the time how I'd describe my music and I say 'Well, I hope it's good.' Hopefully people will just enjoy it for being good music and take from it whatever it makes them feel."

David is currently on the road with Lady Antebellum. Find his tour schedule here.
