David Nail and Wife Catherine Expecting Twins

Congratulations are in order for David Nail and his wife, Catherine Werne: The couple is expecting twins!

Nail revealed the good news to Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex on the red carpet at the 2015 CMA Awards. His wife is due in about four weeks. The twins are a boy and a girl.

"She's carrying around two of my children right now," Nail jokes. "... She's picking and choosing her moments to show everybody the belly."

Werne is a second grade teacher at a public school in Nashville; however, having two newborns of her own will be a different experience.

"That's the unfortunate thing: You can't just start out with kids in second grade, you know, potty trained and everything," Nail says.

Still the country singer says that he thinks they're ready -- or, at the very least, "as ready as you can be."

"They'll be our first children, so having two right off the bat is gonna be an experiment," he notes, "but, hopefully, the good Lord blesses us with ability to care for them."

Nail and Werne got married in 2009. Despite his career successes, Nail has dealt with depression for his entire life, but he says that his wife has been his biggest supporter, even when things get tough.

“She’s just been there,” he says. “And there have been so many moments where I wouldn’t have blamed her for leaving. I think she always believed there was a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel ... She’s just a trooper. She’s the first to admit it’s a contract we signed through thick and thin, through sickness and health — ‘I’m in this committed … ’til death do us part.'”
