David Nail and his family are grieving after the loss his grandmother, whom he credited with steering him toward a career in country music.

Nail shared the sad news on Twitter on Aug. 14., after asking for prayers the night before.

"My thoughts are everywhere tonight, prayers too... Prayers needed in suburban St. Louis as well. Just a sad, sad week!" Nail wrote, referencing recent events in Ferguson, Mo.

Fans of the 'Kiss You Tonight' singer provided an outpouring of support in the hours after he shared the news of her passing, offering thoughts, prayers and condolences.

"I have the greatest mother in the world. She learned from the best. Death isn't easier to handle at 35 years old, and in fact may be harder!" Nail posted to the social media site later on the 14th. "Thank you all so much for the kind words and prayers. Continue them for my hero, my Granddaddy Lawson Brents who I wish like hell I could be with tonight, along with my mother."
