Nashville producer Dave Brainard has successfully undergone facial reconstructive surgery following his Sunday morning (Sept. 27) assault in downtown Nashville. However, the suspects in the attack remain at large.

"Dave made it through surgery," Brainard's publicist, Jacquelyn Marushka, tells the Tennessean. "He's awake and doing well, looks great and is in good spirits."

Brainard suffered a broken jaw in two places, shattered teeth and multiple lacerations after being assaulted and knocked unconscious by a man and a woman on Demonbreun Street early on Sunday morning. His surgery took place at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to Metro Nashville Police Department spokeswoman Kris Mumford, Brainard and two female friends were crossing Demonbreun, located in downtown Nashville, in a crosswalk when a gray or charcoal four-door Nissan Infinity hit one of the women, Deborah DeLoach, and kept driving into them slowly. The car's two occupants then got out of the vehicle and proceeded to assault Brainard and his friends, but they drove away before police arrived.

"Midtown Hills Precinct detectives have been working this case most of the day," Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron says. "The investigation is very much active and continuing."

The two suspects in the attack were originally described as well dressed and white. The woman is reportedly 5 feet, 6 inches tall and in her early 30s, while the man is said to be 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 200 pounds. Additional reports indicate that the male driver referred to his female passenger as "Nicki" during the attack.

"It's hard to understand why their behavior was so angry," Brainard tells Nashville's Fox 17.

Police request that anyone with information about the attack call 615-742-7463. Brainard requests that those wishing to help out donate to MusiCares.

Brainard has produced country artists including Brandy ClarkJamey Johnson and Jerrod Niemann. The 40-year-old earned a Grammy nod for his work on Clark’s 2013 record, 12 Stories. Fox 17 reports that that the four projects on which he is currently working will be put on hold while his jaw is wired shut for six weeks.
