‘Not in Politics’ Darius Rucker Surprised By Mention in Hillary Clinton’s Leaked Emails
Darius Rucker admits that he's "just not in[to] politics," so he was surprised to discover that his name was mentioned in some of Hillary Clinton's leaked emails.
According to the Daily Caller, Democratic presidential nominee Clinton was hoping to earn an endorsement from Rucker. A batch of the leaked emails details attempts by Capricia Marshall, who worked with Clinton at the State Department, to get Rucker to endorse Clinton; Marshall asked both Big Machine Label Group head Scott Borchetta and Michelle Kwan to help sway the country star -- but he never offered his backing.
Prior to the 2016 CMA Awards, Rucker told Taste of Country that he was "shocked" when he learned that his name popped up in those emails.
"It wasn’t that I’m not supporting this person or that person, it’s just that I didn’t want to get involved in politics," Rucker explains, "and here I am, being brought in."
Rucker recently wrapped up his summer Good for a Good Time Tour and has released a new single, "If I Told You." Written by Ross Copperman, Jon Nite and Shane McAnally, the song is the first single off of Rucker’s upcoming fifth solo country album.
