Darius Rucker Is a ‘Diva’ in the Making!

Darius Rucker is a notoriously unassuming, laid-back guy, but next week he’ll be a “diva.” The country superstar is set to headline the “Divas Nashvegas” show on April 27 in Music City. The annual event benefits the Oasis Center, Nashville’s only residential and counseling center for homeless, at-risk and underprivileged teens and young adults.

“The youth are our future, and it is our job to give them the best foundation possible to succeed,” Darius tells The Boot. “Unfortunately, not all families are equipped to provide for their children, but thanks to centers like Oasis, many are given the opportunity to thrive in a safe and supportive environment, despite vulnerable at-home situations. For me, any time I can give back and recognize leading organizations within a community that do all they can to help children, it’s an easy choice to support them — all I’m doing is performing. It’s the community that has the ability to really help make a difference.”

Next Friday’s concert will take place at Evers Farm, just a few minutes south of Nashville, and in addition to Darius’ live performance includes cocktails, dinner catered by the famous Loveless Cafe, and an opening set by comedienne Leanne Morgan. A limited number of tables, which each seat 10 – 12 guests, are still available, as are individual seats. Buy your tickets here.

Wynonna Judd was the original “diva,” having teamed with the non-profit foundation more than eight years ago to pioneer the event. In addition to Wy, past “Divas Nashvegas” headliners include Faith Hill, Patti LaBelle, Reba McEntire and Lady Antebellum.

With Darius as this year’s “diva,” the theme of the night is “History in the Making,” taken from his big hit of the same name, and also reflective of the former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman’s history-making career resurgence as a solo country music star.

“We’re an organization that champions diversity and breaking down stereotypes. We all know how Darius has done that within the country music community, so he is a perfect fit not only to provide a great evening of entertainment but also to serve as a role model for our youth,” says Oasis Center Vice President Mark Dunkerley.

All of the money raised at the event will go to Oasis’ emergency shelter, which is a two-week program for teenagers who are at risk for entering state custody. In the past two years, 96% of the youth who stayed at Oasis were successfully reunited with their families, thus avoiding foster care. Learn more about the Oasis Center here.
