Darius Rucker took home the award for Best Country Solo Performance at the 2014 Grammys Sunday night (Jan. 26), beating out some of the hottest stars in country music for the honor.

The night's nominees included Lee Brice, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton. Rucker won for his hit rendition of 'Wagon Wheel,' which reached No.1 and became one of the biggest hits of 2014 with its singalong chorus and compelling rhythm. Lady Antebellum joined Rucker on the track, providing background vocals.

Rucker re-fashioned the track from a song by Old Crow Medicine Show, who actually borrowed from an old Bob Dylan song to finish their tune. Rucker must be feeling vindicated -- last November he shared his strong feelings about the song in an interview.

“If 'Wagon Wheel' doesn’t get nominated for a Grammy, country music is screwed,” he said.

Rucker previously won two Grammys during his stint with Hootie and the Blowfish.
