Colt Ford has recruited some of his famous friends to perform at a benefit concert for the families of two police officers in his hometown.

When the country rapper returned home from his recent tour in late March, he learned that Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian had been shot and killed, and his good friend Officer Tony Howard was injured, while investigating a car-jacking in his native Athens, Ga. Colt quickly decided to he had to use his newfound fame to pitch in.

Colt, who was born and raised in the small town, has enlisted the support of special guests Rhett Akins, Jason Aldean, Dallas Davidson, Mike Dekel, Edwin McCain, James Otto and more, to join him for the Colt Ford and Friends benefit on Tuesday, August 16, at Georgia Theater in Athens.

"I've known Tony for over 25 years, and both he and Buddy are and were pillars in this community. I can't stand by and not do something for their families during this difficult time due to such a brutal offense," Colt explained. "I want to raise as much money as we can through the auction, performances and donation links, so I can't thank my friends enough for joining together with me for this great cause."

The benefit will feature an intimate performance, silent auction and celebration of the careers of the two officers. Tickets for the event go on sale on Friday (July 22). Visit www.coltford.com for more info.
