Miranda Lambert’s ‘The House That Built Me’ Is CMA Song of the Year
The Song of the Year award is given to the songwriters, and after Miranda, decked out in a silver skirt and black bustier, led writers Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin to the stage, she offered, “I just want to say thank you for writing such a beautiful song, and thank [producer] Scott Hendricks for finding it.”
“I’ve never felt less cool than I do right now, but anyway thank you,” said a grinning Tom Douglas. “I’m wearing my beloved father’s tuxedo, and I do humbly accept this award. There are so many great songs in the category, I would just love to just celebrate the other great songs. Allen and I are so honored to be up here with you.”
Allen added, “Tom and I would both like to thank Gary Overton, Blake Shelton, Scott Hendricks … Blake could have had the song, and Blake and Scott, they so generously let it go to Miranda.”
“The House That Built Me” became Miranda’s first No. 1 single in June.
