The Civil Wars have announced the release of a new digital EP. The acclaimed duo have also released a new song off the album.

The EP, 'Between the Bars,' was released exclusively on vinyl on last year's Record Store Day. A remake of an Elliott Smith song, the title track 'Between the Bars' is the first song released off the EP, which also includes Portishead's 'Sour Times,' Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' and the Romantics' 'Talking in Your Sleep.'

The release comes as a surprise considering that band members John Paul White and Joy Williams have not been speaking since they abruptly canceled a European tour in November of 2012.

Despite their personal issues, the band continue to be successful commercially. Their self-titled sophomore album debuted at No. 1 last August, and the duo took home the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their song 'From This Valley' in January.

The future of the group is up in the air, with Williams acknowledging, “The reality is I’m not even quite sure.”
