Chris Young Fulfills Promise to Raise Funds for Stars for Stripes
In June 2012, Chris Young promised his fan club members that he would raise money to support Stars for Stripes, a non-profit that provides celebrity entertainment to US troops serving overseas.
Young made good on that promise after closing his campaign with a sold out show at House of Blues in Los Angeles on Sept. 30. He raised over $35,000 for the organization, which will supplement 2012 and 2013 tours to the Pacific Rim, Europe and Afghanistan.
In 2009, Young joined Craig Morgan in a tour of military bases in Iraq and Kuwait and became involved with Stars for Stripes. The trip was filmed by Great American Country for the television special ‘Stars for Stripes — Wounded Warriors Return.’
“As someone who has been overseas to entertain troops in a combat zone, [Young] realizes how important celebrity visits are to the morale of our military stationed abroad,” says Stars and Stripes President Judy Seale in a press release. “He has been an amazing ambassador for Stars for Stripes and a tireless supporter of our military men and women.”
Young has been a member of the organization’s Board of Directors since 2010, and took a second tour to Iraq and Kuwait in 2011.
