Chris Young's hot streak is continuing into the new year as he celebrates two big nominations from the Academy of Country Music for Male Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year for his smash hit, 'Tomorrow.' The Tennessee native was surprised with the news of his nods Thursday morning (Jan. 26) as he was working out with his trainer, and he was thrilled to find out he landed in the top five in the coveted Male Vocalist category, a spot dominated in the last few years by artists such as Brad Paisley and Keith Urban.

"I've been working with a trainer out on the road now, so I was just getting ready to run steps when my manager called me and told me about the nominations," Chris tells The Boot. "I was thrilled! Just to be nominated for Single of the Year and also for Male Vocalist is really strong. The Male Vocalist category doesn't fluctuate that much from year to year, and I'm pretty sure all the four guys who were nominated have been nominated before, so to be in that fifth spot, which I'm sure a lot of people wanted, that feels pretty good."

For Chris, who's had plenty of career momentum over the past 12 months on the heels of his latest album, 'Neon' -- including a Grammy nod, a CMA New Artist of the Year nomination, and his gold-certified smash single, 'Tomorrow' -- the ACM nominations are just more validation that he's on the right track. "It's like another step forward, to be in the Male Vocalist category ... They pick five guys, so that says you're definitely taking it to another level, and also with the Single nomination that's something I wrote, so that's a nod toward success on the radio but also toward songwriting and what songs we pick and release. So in a lot of ways, they both play on each other, but they are both very different awards, so I was excited about both!"

The Single of the Year nomination is just the latest accolade for the sexy ballad 'Tomorrow,' which became Chris' fourth No. 1 hit and was the lead single from his third CD. He penned the song with Anthony Smith and Frank Myers, and the three are currently out trying to make some more lyrical magic on the road together, as Chris kicks off his tour with Miranda Lambert.

"'Tomorrow' is one of those songs that the day we wrote it, I woke up the next day and I told my co-writers and just knew, 'This is going to be my first single,' and that was before we even finished the record! So I always thought the song was really strong, and was really proud we got nominated. My co-writers Anthony Smith and Frank Myers are out on the road writing with me right now, so I got to wake up and turn to them and go, 'Hey guys, thanks for Single of the Year!'"

Chris may have another award-winning single on his hands soon as well with his latest song, 'You.' The tune is currently in the Top 5 on the country charts and inching towards the top spot.
