During a visit to SiriusXM's The Highway on Thursday (April 7), Chris Janson paid tribute to the recently deceased Merle Haggard by covering two of the country icon's songs.

Janson began with "My Favorite Memory," Haggard's 1981 single from his Big City album, then transitioned seamlessly into "Footlights," from the legend's 1979 record Serving 190 Proof. "Footlights" was never a single for "the Hag," but "My Favorite Memory" became a No. 1 hit after its release. Press play on the video above to hear Janson's versions of both tunes.

Janson is one of many country stars to honor Haggard following his death on Wednesday (April 6), his 79th birthdaySam Outlaw also covered a Haggard song in remembrance: During his Wednesday night show in Norway, the singer-songwriter opened with "Silver Wings."

"Sad to hear the loss of @MerleHaggard today," Janson wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, also sharing a photo of himself with Haggard. "A true legend. Miss you. Thinking of you @BenHaggardMusic in my prayers."

Beginning on Friday (April 8) at 6PM ET, SiriusXM's Willie's Roadhouse (channel 59) will be renamed Merle's Roadhouse for the weekend. Special tribute programming will run through Sunday night (April 10).
