Chris Janson wrote all 11 songs on his recent Buy Me a Boat album, including its title track, which became a massive hit -- but the singer-songwriter admits that he still doesn't always know a hit song when he hears it, even if he wrote it.

Case in point: Janson co-wrote LoCash's hit single, "I Love This Life," along with songwriter Danny Myrick and LoCash members Preston Brust and Chris Lucas, but he never imagined that it would become the song that changed LoCash's career.

"I bet against it, off the bat," Janson told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "They were an independent [act], like I was, and it’s scary when you don’t have a record deal. It just is."

Still, Janson supported LoCash in their desire to record the song themselves, even though he thought that it, in all likelihood, would never land on the charts.

"Danny Myrick and I took a chance and just said, ‘Okay, whatever. We love you guys, so have at it,’ and they did it," Janson recalls. "It’s pretty unbelievable."

For the week of Feb. 6, "I Love This Life" sits at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Janson is happy to have been proven wrong.

"I can’t say enough good things about the LoCash guys. They deserve it more than me; they deserve it more than anybody I know. They work harder than anybody I know," the singer-songwriter says. "We came up together, pretty much. You talk about cats who know the struggle of the business -- they do, and, man, they have overcome.

"I’m so damn proud of them," Janson adds. "I’m so glad that their hit is a song that I was a writer on ... pretty life-changing for me, and for them."

"I Love This Life" is available for download on iTunes.
