Charlie Daniels’ Barn Catches Fire

Jim Spellman,

A fiery blaze has destroyed the main barn owned by Charlie Daniels at his Twin Pines Ranch in Wilson County, Tenn., located east of Nashville.

The barn on the country legend’s property was used to house horses, and some animals were said to be inside the barn when the fire started. Officials were not yet able to confirm the full extent of loss, however, some reports claim that there is some loss of farm equipment, memorabilia, 11 horses and a bull.

The fire started around 10:00 PM Friday (January 7), completely destroying the barn. The performer’s manager, David Corlew, told Nashville’s ABC-TV affiliate WKRN that Charlie was glad no one was hurt, but was still assessing the damage to his animals.

Charlie, wife Hazel and their family were in Colorado and not at home at the time of the fire.

Always one to help others in need, the singer held his annual Charlie Daniels & Friends Benefit Concert in November, featuring Montgomery Gentry, Jake Owen and Sawyer Brown.

“God has given me so much,” Charlie told The Boot. “No matter what I do, I will never get so close to one-tenth of one percent of it back. As long as I can, I want to be able to help other people.”

Proceeds from the concert went to Christmas 4 Kids, a not-for-profit organization. Money pooled from the concert and a December 13 tour bus show in Hendersonville, Tenn., was used to treat 400 kids from 29 different schools a party with Santa and Mrs. Claus and $150 to spend during a shopping trip at a local Walmart.
