Carrie Underwood is spending time in New York City, prepping for her role as Maria Von Trapp for the upcoming live televised performance of 'The Sound of Music,' and it seems the songstress is busier than ever.

Sony Music has announced they will release a companion soundtrack to the Tony-winning musical, 'The Sound of Music -- Music from the NBC Television Event,' on Dec. 3, only two days before the show will air on NBC.

The soundtrack will also include songs by other cast members, including Audra McDonald from 'Private Practice,' Christian Borle from 'Smash,'  and Laura Benati from 'Go On.'

'True Blood' actor Stephen Moyer, who plays Captain George Von Trapp opposite Underwood, also contributes to the album.

The 'See You Again' singer hinted she was spending time in the studio while in the Big Apple, and while she doesn't say what she is working on, it's safe to assume it's for the upcoming soundtrack.

The Oklahoma native admits she is thrilled to be part of the star-studded cast. “The whole experience will be amazing,” she says. “I love the movie, and I’ve always loved musicals. I have a huge respect for people singing live, genuinely talented people getting up and presenting themselves to the world."

Underwood will have to take time away from 'The Sound of Music' rehearsals next week to prepare for her role as co-host of the CMA Awards, along with Brad Paisley. The two, who are returning to their hosting roles for the sixth year, will each perform during the live televised broadcast, as well. The 47th annual CMA Awards will air live on ABC on Nov. 6 at 8PM ET on ABC.

'The Sound of Music' will air on NBC on Dec. 5.
