Carrie Underwood’s ‘The Sound of Music Live!’ Earns Four Primetime Emmy Nominations

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood‘s debut in a live musical was a ratings smash, and now it’s garnered some serious industry credibility. NBC’s production of ‘The Sound of Music Live!‘ has earned multiple nominations in the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards.

The broadcast was a live television re-working of the classic musical upon which the iconic Julie Andrews movie was based. Underwood starred as Maria von Trapp in a production that also featured Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Laura Benanti. The special aired in December of 2013, and drew a total of 44 million viewers.

The ambitious production — which reportedly cost $9 million to stage — has been nominated in four categories in the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards. The categories include Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Special Class Program and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special

Underwood first shot to fame by winning ‘American Idol‘ in 2005, and has gone on to a career that encompasses music, television and film. The six-time Grammy winner has sold more than 64 million units worldwide, and released 18 No. 1 singles, nine of which she co-wrote. She has been named the ACM’s Entertainer of the Year twice, and was Pollstar’s Top Country Female Touring Artist in 2008, 2010 and 2012. All four of her studio albums have been certified platinum or multi-platinum.

Underwood is currently at work on her fifth studio album, for which there is currently no title, track listing or release date.

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards are set to air live on Monday, Aug. 25 on NBC, hosted by Seth Meyers.
