Carrie Underwood fans have been waiting for new material since her release of 'Blown Away' in 2012, and it sounds like a new album may be in the works.

According to Radio.com, the 'American Idol' winner is taking the time to write new songs. The website tweeted that Underwood has been writing "a lot lately" and that "it's going well."

Underwood co-wrote eight of the 14 songs on 'Blown Away,' including ‘Two Black Cadillacs,’ ‘See You Again,’ ‘Cupid’s Got A Shotgun’ and ‘Wine After Whiskey.'

She has also taken her writing skills into other endeavors -- she wrote a song for 'American Idol' finalist Kristy Lee Cook's debut album 'Why Wait,' and was a co-writer on 'There's a Place for Us' from the movie 'The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.' Underwood performed 'There's a Place for Us,' which ended up receiving a Golden Globe nomination for best original song.

It's obvious that Underwood has more than just singing chops, and hopefully she'll have a heavier hand on the writing side of her next album.
