After being introduced by her CMA Awards co-host, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood began a performance of her hit "Smoke Break."

Underwood was smokin' on stage in thigh-high black leather boots and a long sleeve, but short, dress, adorned with black fringe on her arms. The only accessory complimenting her outfit was the guitar that accompanied her vocals.

The powerful vocals that Underwood put forth in her performance were met with the bright lights in her stage design, which followed the changing tempo of the song.

“Smoke Break,” is from Underwood's Storyteller album, which earned the singer the highest one-week add total in the history of trade publication Country Aircheck.

“The song itself is one of those story songs I feel like everybody can relate to, about how life is so hectic,” Underwood explains. “And it’s so nice when — if and when — you actually get to step away for a second. We all need that, and we all need that time to ourselves and to get to take a break.”

“For the storyline, I really just wanted it to be mainly about strong women — strong, beautiful women who are doing everything that the boys do,” she says. “And, at the end, we all get together and have our break.”

Storyteller was released on Oct. 23, and shows a maturity in Underwood, perhaps in part to her growing family.

“There are some things on there that are definitely familiar, but there’s a lot of growth that has happened, as well,” she reveals. “It’s going to sound a little bit different — still the things that fans will obviously know is me. I’m not going crazy or anything, but it’s a little bit of a shift.”

Storyteller is available for download on Amazon.
