Carrie Underwood may not be ready for motherhood yet but she is always willing to nurture her four-legged friends. The 28-year-old recently rescued a dog she found abandoned on the highway, wasting no time to make sure the pooch received medical care -- and plenty of love.

The singer was driving home to Nashville from her parent's house in Oklahoma after the holidays when she saw two dogs on the side of the road. "I had Ace and Penny [Carrie's own dogs] and a trunk full of luggage and presents in the SUV," she shares on her blog (quote via People). Carrie says she saw one of the pups wag its tail, and immediately pulled over to see if she could help. Unfortunately, the other dog had died but Carrie took the "limping" and "bloody" pup and placed her in the car.

"My guess is that the dogs were thrown out of their car by their owners on the highway," she notes.

Thankfully, the dog whom Carrie rescued -- and named Stella -- is doing very well! Carrie took her to an emergency vet, got her groomed and began working on house-training the pup.

"She follows me around from room to room," Carrie revealed. "She's the best Lab I've ever been around!"

Ultimately, the singer-songwriter opted to give Stella to her neighbors, with the stipulation that she could visit whenever she wanted.

"I cried when she walked out the door," she admits. "[Husband Mike Fisher] told me not to be a crazy ex-girlfriend about it and stalk them ... I can't help it! She deserves the best life ever!"

Carrie will have to get Ace and Penny adjusted to life on the road later this year. She is putting the finishing touches on her new album, and plans to hit the road later this year to support the new project. She will also head to Los Angeles on February 12, where she will find out if she will win her sixth Grammy, this time for Best Country Solo Performance for 'Mama's Song.'

The Grammy Awards will air live from Las Vegas at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
