When two of country's fast-rising male stars are rumored to be recording a song together, it's a big deal. And while he tried to play coy in an interview with Illinois radio station WIXYBrett Eldredge has more or less confirmed that, yes, he has recorded a collaboration with Thomas Rhett.

"It's really weird, I haven't talked to anybody about this yet," Eldredge told the station's Holstein & Company. "I don't know what you're talking about."

When pressed, however, Eldredge admitted that, hypothetically, if he were to collaborate on a song with Rhett, it wouldn't be a ballad.

"I would unleash into the world with a fury," Eldredge says. "We're going on tour together in the fall, so if we were ever to do a song, it would be groovy and fun -- if that were to ever happen."

Rhett and Eldredge will be co-headlining the 2015 CMT on Tour this fall, so there's a good chance that the fans attending those shows will get to hear the tune live.

Illinois, Eldredge's sophomore record, is set to drop on Sept. 11. The title of the album pays homage to the "Lose My Mind" singer's Midwestern roots (he's a native of Paris, Ill.).

"The basis of [the title track] doesn't really have to be necessarily just about Illinois, but for me in this situation, I'm from there," Eldredge explains. "It's about, no matter where you go in life, where you travel and how far your life changes, that place that you started, where your roots come from, always is a part of you, in your heart and in your soul.

"That's what "Illinois" is about, and that's what I'm about," he adds. "It was a no-brainer to make the album called Illinois after that song."

Rhett, too, is hard at work on his sophomore album, the title and details of which have yet to be announced.
