Brantley Gilbert Says Tim McGraw Really is as Awesome as He Seems

When Brantley Gilbert spent time on the road with Tim McGraw last year, the country newcomer learned a lot from the seasoned artist -- and found out that they have a bit in common, too.

“No joke, Tim’s an awesome dude, on and offstage,” Gilbert tells CMT. “We share some lifestyle choices ... You know, Tim’s been sober for a while. He had some great advice as far as that goes and as far as business went.”

What impressed Gilbert the most, however, was McGraw's ability to maintain his country superstar status while balancing his home life with his wife Faith Hill and kids.

“I had an opportunity to fly with him to some shows," Gilbert explains, "and hearing him call home and talk to Faith and his girls, man, he’s just a good father and a good husband."

That message is important for Gilbert, who is preparing to marry his fiancee Amber Cochran later this year. The couple has known each other for over 10 years, but they weren't in contact for about half that time due to some of Gilbert's personal choices. The singer says that he hasn't been involved much in the wedding planning, but there's one thing that's really important to him.

“I just want to make sure … she gets what she wants and she’s gonna be happy with it,” he says. “I’m getting to marry her that day, so I’m happy.”

Gilbert and McGraw will both be spending time on the road this summer. McGraw will be out on his 2015 Shotgun Rider Tour, while Gilbert will be playing a few dates on Kenny Chesney's 2015 Big Revival Tour. They will both be performing at the 2015 iHeartRadio Country Festival as well.
