Blake Shelton isn't about to let the Westboro Baptist Church tweet about him and get away with it. After the organization sent out a tweet targeting Shelton on Sunday night (Aug. 7), the country star retaliated.

"Hey @WBCSaysRepent I see y'all are back at it!! Did y'all ever expand your gene pool or are you still nailing your immediate family members?" Shelton tweeted shortly after the WBC's initial message, quickly following up with a photo of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps, saying, "Never mind @WBCSaysRepent ... I think I just answered my own question."

The WBC continued to tweet at Shelton, including telling him, "We're still pleading with you to put away your sexual perversion (proud adultery) & seek God's mercy!" Shelton's final retort, in reply to that message, was "I know @WBCSaysRepent ... But the perversion side of me [is] sooooo damn funny though. Don't you think?!!" Readers can flip through the photo gallery above to see the entire exchange.

It's not the first time Shelton has taken on the WBC on social media: Back in 2013, after the group announced a protest outside one of the artist's concerts, they fought back and forth for multiple days. A few weeks after that conflict, Shelton told TMZ, "Westboro Baptist Church can b--w me,” adding with a grin, “I think that’s one of the commandments.”

Shelton isn't the first country act to fight back against the Westboro Baptist Church's protests and rhetoric, either: Also in 2013, Vince Gill confronted WBC protesters outside one of his concerts. A year later, facing a protest of his own, Brad Paisley used a selfie with a humorous caption to let the WBC know what he thinks of them; the singer later said that he posted the picture because of the organization's protests at fallen soldiers' funerals.

“My patriotism starts there,” he said at the time. “We’re talking about, I think everyone can agree — except maybe Westboro Baptist — on the fact our soldiers are our most important, the most amazing people that we’ve had.”
